Josh reserved JTM Cake Studio & Cafe for a few hours to create a private space for the proposal. Before Josh and Esther arrived, a few of Josh’s friends came early to decorate the café and prepare everything for the surprise. Waiting at the centre of it all was a beautiful engagement cake that had been lovingly prepaid by Esther’s family, who are bakers.
Everything was carefully coordinated ahead of time. Josh stayed in contact with one of his friends so everyone would know exactly when they were approaching the café.
An Emotional Surprise Proposal in Cambridge, Ontario
Once Josh gave the signal, we quietly moved into our hiding spots and waited for them to walk through the door.
Watching Esther’s reaction was genuinely touching. She had absolutely no idea what was about to happen. The surprise completely caught her off guard, and as Josh got down on one knee, she became overwhelmed with emotion and burst into tears. It was one of those moments that reminds me why I love photographing surprise proposals. The emotions were completely real, honest, and impossible to recreate.
Celebrating Their Engagement with Family and Friends
After Josh asked the question and Esther said yes, everyone gathered together to celebrate. Family and friends congratulated the newly engaged couple while they enjoyed the beautiful engagement cake along with snacks and treats inside the café.
It was a wonderful afternoon shared with the people who matter most, and I feel incredibly grateful to have documented such an important milestone in Josh and Esther’s story.
