If you are thinking about turning your passion in photography into a very successful business then this blog is for you!
I also made a video on my youtube, linked below, explaining this topic. If you preferwatching the video instead, please click play below. If you prefer reading, then read on…
I have been meaning to talk about this topic for so long now because I always want to help young upcoming photographers to be successful in starting their own brand. Also because when I started, I did not have anybody helping me on how to promote or run my photography business. I knew I have to market my wedding photography out there but didn’t know how.
Here are the three easy steps to get you started in your Photography Business.
1. Photography Promotion
I think, this is the most important step in any business especially photography business. Without it, you won’t have clients, and no one will see your products or services.
I’d like to focus mainly on the following two categories:
- Social Media
Everyone should have a website. Even if you don’t have a business of your own and you just want to start your own personal brand or if you want to be a social media personality, it is best to have a website!
So if you are thinking about starting your own website, I suggest start ASAP, immediately and right now. :) The reason being is because, there’s so many factors that you need to consider before seeing final results.
First, you obviously have to building your site, create content, upload your pictures and constant editing. When you are uploading your photography work on your website, make sure you are uploading small sized images to make your website load faster.
Second, you need to have a great website Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy. Having a great SEO will make your website more searchable and will come up on the very first page on google. Without it, your website is pretty much useless. I am not going to go into too much detail about SEO. If you would like me to do a tutorial about it, please comment down below on this blog or on my youtube video.
Third, you should consider doing blogs for your website. Blogging is another great tool to put your work out there and it helps to make your website seem active which could result to a higher SEO.
Photography Social Media
In 2017, I expect that you are on social media for your business. If not, what are you doing? Social media is one of the best tools nowadays to start your photography business or any business. It is instant recognition and people will trust your brand more. This will make you seem more legit and not a fake photographer.
I suggest go the whole 9 yards. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Youtube. Although youtube is not for everybody. It took me a while to get comfortable in front ofa camera talking.
To some people, business = finances. This is true, listen to those people.
First thing to do when you are a start up is to register your business. By doing so, you will get a tax code which you’ll need when filing your taxes.
Next is keep track of your expenses. Make sure you keep track of your expenses by keeping the receipts and other invoices. This will be handy when you do your tax return.
To summarize, the three steps you should be doing now when starting your business are, Build Your Website, Social Media and Finances. By doing these three steps, you should be on your way to building your great photography business.
Good luck! :)
