How To Photograph Your First Engagement Photo Shoot | YANI MACUTE PHOTOGRAPHY

Guelph Engagement Photos

How did I get my very first engagement photography and entered the wedding photography world? These are the questions I sometimes ask myself.

It was December 2010 when I officially got into photography. It was also when I bought my very first camera which was the Canon Rebel XS. It was the cheapest canon camera in the market at that time. Why Canon you might ask...? because I saw somebody on youtube had mentioned that canon is the best camera. LOL. Also they mentioned that canon is more user friendly than Nikon. As a young photographer with no DSLR camera background, it was just the safest choice. Then, because of America's Next Top Model, I knew that I would like to get into fashion, editorial photography or photographing people in general. So I asked my closest friends to be model and I had been doing that for 3 years.

Until late 2012 or early 2013, I saw a post on my Facebook feed, that one of my friends got engaged. Right away I thought, "who is photographing their engagement photo shoot and wedding?" So I out of nowhere... I don't know what I was thinking, maybe because of my passion or desperation, I send them a private message on facebook. And it all started with this one short message...

"Wendy! I saw you just got engaged. I thought that was very cute. I was just wondering if you guys would be interested in some engagement photo shoot. It would be an honour to photograph such beautiful couple. Let me know."

...and the rest is history.

I think it was fate, the universe or the stars were aligning because if I think of it now, WHY THE HECK WOULD THEY HIRE ME AS THEIR ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHER WHEN I DO NOT HAVE ANY ENGAGEMENT PICTURES IN MY PORTFOLIO? All I had in my photography portfolio were fashion, editorial and landscapes photos. But luckily, they said yes to the photographer. 😊!

They loved the photos, and eventually they asked me to be their wedding photographer! πŸ€—

Lesson of the story is, if you are passionate about the thing you do, in this case, photography, you will find a way and eventually you will be able to reach those dreams if you just keep on doing what you love.
